Nial Pollock - 11:57am May 9, 2006 Irish (#36 of 59)

Hi there.

I am trying to trace my Great Uncle's family in the US. My Great Uncle's name is Robert Shaw and he had a sister named Annie (my grandmother) and a brother named Tom. Robert was born in Greenock in Scotland around 1916, but returned to Ireland when he was 4 years old. Since his siblings both lived into their mid-90s, there is a small chance that Robert is still alive.

He married his wife Betty in London, where he worked as a bricklayer, and they had a son there called William in 1946.

He moved to New Jersey via the port of Cobh sometime in the late 1940s, when Robert was 33. Robert moved first and Betty stayed in Ireland with my grandmother in Claudy, near Derry, until he was settled.

They then had 3 more children, 2 girls (one named Mary) and a boy before my grandmother fell out of touch with them.

I would love to hear from anyone who thinks they may be able to help.

Thanks a lot,

Nial Pollock

Hi I'm looking for the death of a John Lunn who was shot and I presumed killed by a sniper on a bridge in Londonderry. I'm not sure of the dates but believe the incident occurred between the years 1920 - 1930.

This information has been passed down through the family by word of mouth - can anyone advise me how I can research this event? Does any authority hold the names of all people who were shot, injured during the troubles?

Many thanks

Debbie

Chloe Marlow - 09:19pm Jan 24, 2009 Irish (#53 of 59)

Looking for Irish roots. I think my mother was born here in San Francisco California. But her mom and dad came from Ireland. Her maiden name was Rose Margaret McCaffrey and she was born in 1912. I don't know anything about her family. She use to tell me her family came from a town on the banks of the River Shannon.... I know! big help All I know about her family is that her dad worked on the Southern Pacific railroad in California and that she had 5 step brother(born in Ireland-lived in Calif), she said they were all Catholic priests- but my research has not proven any of that true, and I can't find any information on her or her family. I think she may of had an Aunt Helen that raised her after her mother was killed in a fire around 1912 on Natoma Street, San Francisco, Calif.
